Check out the first FREE lesson of our online Buntús Cainte course

We're hard at work getting ready to release the first 20 lessons of our new 60 lesson online Irish course, based on Buntús Cainte. But we can't wait to show you what we've done, so we've released the first lesson free for you to check out at http://talkirish.com/online_irish_course/

So what's new? Well, we've created some gorgeous new graphics, that are fun and colourful and really help you learn the words you see. We've also added some grammar help to the lessons, which is something lots of learners have asked for. We've also included a question section - so you can check up on your new understanding of Irish.

Buntús Cainte online is an excellent partner to the Buntús Cainte MP3 course. We're aiming to release the online course over Winter 2010 - both online and on CD-ROM.

Have a look at it at http://talkirish.com/online_irish_course/ and post back here to let us know what you think of it!

I must say that I love this one after going through the first lesson about 10 times now. It's absolutely brilliant for us visual learners. And of course for us absolute beginners.

So glad you like it! It's a great idea to go through it repeatedly, until you're really familiar. I love learning with images and big text - it really helps it stick.

Hi - I'm up to Lesson 4 and there seems to be a bug - it won't let me answer Q1 in the quiz. Also, how do I put in a fada?

    Hi Enbee,

Wow - you're powering through the course - maith thú!

I'm not sure why the course won't let you answer the first question - I've just retested it in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, and each time I could answer the first question.

Let me know what browser you're using in case that's an issue. It could be that you need to refresh your browser to get a 'fresh' view of the course. This is because if you go past any screen, the quiz 'remembers' what you did there - so it can think you already answered the question and won't let you have another go.

    Ádh mór,

    Michelle

    Dia duit a Michelle,

Thanks for the quick response! I'm on a Mac using Safari - the rest of the course has worked fine but for some reason when I click on "quiz" it takes me directly to question 2 - very frustrating!  Tried refresh, that takes me to the beginning of the lesson but the same thing happens again.

Re: Check out the first FREE lesson of our online Buntús Cainte course

    Dia's Mhuire duit,

    I know what's happening - sorry I didn't get it before.

When you enter the end of section quiz you are taken directly to question 2 because you've already been 'tested' earlier in the lesson with a question. The quiz review function tracks all questions in each lesson as being part of an overall quiz.

In some lessons, there'll be more than one question before the final question set, in which case you'll be taken to question 3 or even 4 as the 'first' question of the final quiz set.

It is as designed - but I can appreciate that it may look like a bug. Question is (ha ha) should I redesign it so that the questions in the lesson aren't tracked, so therefore aren't included in the end of lesson quiz numbering system? The downside of this is they then can't be reviewed by the learner. Or should I leave things are they are?

Let me know what you think!

    Michelle

Re: Check out the first FREE lesson of our online Buntús Cainte course

Ah!  That makes sense - it does tell me at Q2 though that i haven't done all the questions (even though it won't let me get at Q1), and Q1 shows up in the review.   It also means that when the scoring comes up for the quiz you automatically are a few points down - so for sheer geeky satisfaction I suspect it would be more fun to be able to do Q1 at the same time as the other quiz questions - it did work for the first 3 lessons, just not for lesson 4 (and also now 5).

Thanks again for the quick response - I'm finding this course much more fun than trying to learn from a book!

Re: Check out the first FREE lesson of our online Buntús Cainte course

    Hi

I am also getting a bug in lesson 4. It says 'You didn't complete all the options' and wont let me answer any questions in the quiz apart from the first question that is earlier in the lesson.

Also is there anyway for the course to highlight the lessons you have already completed?

    Thanks

    Maureen

    Hey Maureen,

Sorry - I've been on the road travelling and I'm now overwhelmed with stuff to catch up on - argh. I promise to get into Lesson 4 this weekend on my Mac to see if I can spot the bug.

We're working on a way to highlight the lessons you've already completed Smile

    Slán,

    Michelle
