You can download the first lesson of Buntús Cainte for free - just go to http://talkirish.bandcamp.com/album/bunt-s-cainte-book-1

Once you've downloaded it, open it on your MP3 player and see what the options are for viewing the lyrics.

I don't know the exact MP3 +video player you have - but it does seem from a quick Google search that Phillips video player models support lyrics.

If you can get this to work, can you post back here and let us know!

I think there is something wrong with my iPod configuration but, to be honest, the Buntus Cainte tracks are the only ones I want to see the lyrics for so as long as it's working for Buntus Cainte, I don't care about the other songs on my iPod.

I am able to see the lyrics now using the method Karen described.

I downloaded this from my PC to an updated and reformatted iPod touch. I then tried to view the lyrics by clicking the little icon in the top right of my iPod touch. I could only see a lesson list.

So I spent AGES (3 hours!!!) last night trying to display the lyrics, which I could see in iTunes, so I knew the data was there.

Then I accidentally touched the main screen when the album art was showing and the lyrics just displayed!

So - it looks like my userguide is wrong *blushes*. I'll triplecheck all this, but it looks like you just do what Karen did - simply tap the centre screen when the album art is displayed. You can toggle between that and the lesson list using the little icon in the top right of the screen.

Go raibh maith agat, Karen!

Re: Trouble Showing Text in new Buntus Cainte Application

Just thought I'd give you another user's perspective...the lyrics were automatic when I downloaded and put on my iPod touch. They came up automatically, without me having to do anything. I am using iPod touch but don't know what you are using... if you tap the screen on the iPod touch whilst the lyrics are displayed you can toggle between having the lyrics appear or disappear (I guess this is handy if you want to practice and see if you recognise the phrases without the visual prompts of the lyrics.

I have latest iTunes and iPod software too, so maybe it is something in your configuration - but I'm not a technical person so I'm not sure :)

but anyway, my lyrics came up automatically on screen, just to let you know!

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I initially went into the Info dialog, the Lyrics tab was blank. In searching elsewhere on the web, I found a tip regarding a "Convert ID3 Tags" command if you right click a file. I did that and the lyrics tab then was filled in.

It seems odd to me that I'd have to do this. I am running the latest version of iTunes and iPod software. You'd think as long as the Lyrics setting was turned on in the iPod, that lyrics would be automatic.

It probably has something to do with an incorrect configuration on my part.

I'll be interested to learn if you had to do the same thing.

Sorry to hear that it's not been straightforward for you. Let's try and troubleshoot the basics. First open the album in iTunes. Then select any file and right-click it. You should get an option to 'Get Info'. Click that.

In the dialog box that's displayed, you should be able to select a tab called 'lyrics'. Click this. It will display the course lyrics - so this first step will confirm that the course has imported correctly to iTunes.

Let me know how that works out. I'll double check how Buntús Cainte performs on my iPod (at home!) this evening and reply again tomorrow.
